What’s a charism?
A charism is a gift the Holy Spirit gives every baptized Catholic to build up the Church and serve the world. The Catechism is clear about it (CCC 799–801) — charisms aren’t reserved for canonized saints or people with theology degrees. They’re for ordinary Catholics living ordinary lives. The catch is simple: you can’t put a gift to work until you know you have it.
What the assessment gives you
In about 20 to 25 minutes, you’ll see the charisms you’re most likely to have — plus a personalized report with next steps for discerning them further.
And this is only the beginning. Over the weeks that follow, St. Isaac Jogues will help you see how the gifts you have can come alive in the life of our parish.

What’s the purpose of the charism assessment?
We offer this online charism assessment to give you a lot of valuable, personalized information to kickstart your charism discernment process. It’s not meant to be definitive, but it is a starting place to help you choose, discern, and ultimately commit to charisms in your own life. The assessment will help you narrow down the possibilities and find your most likely charisms, as well as get some personalized tips on how to test them out.
How are my results used, and who can see them?
When you take a charism assessment at a discounted or complimentary rate through your parish, your results are added to your parish’s assessment results dashboard and become viewable by a number of parish administrators. You check a box consenting to this when you begin the assessment. Your parish will be able to see your name and email address, your most likely charism results, and the answers you share in your Stewardship Renewal questionnaire — to help them follow up with you if you’re interested in being more involved in parish life and ministry.
If you choose not to participate in your parish’s program, you’re welcome to visit manypartsministries.com and purchase a personal charism assessment anytime. Those results would be your own and are in no way connected to your parish. Either way, your data will never be shared or sold by Many Parts Ministries, and we take data privacy very seriously.
What if I’m not ready to get involved in parish ministry?
If you’re not ready to participate in parish ministries now, no problem! Just select the appropriate responses on the questionnaire at the end. For example, when you’re asked “Would you like help finding opportunities to use your charisms in parish life?” you can select “No.”
How does the assessment relate to ministry involvement?
The charism assessment may give you ideas about the charisms you are likely to have, but the next step in discernment is usually to “test,” or try using that charism for the building up of the Church, to see if it bears fruit. Does it bring you joy? Do others affirm you in this area? Does it feel disproportionately effective or fruitful in others’ lives? Your parish may follow up with you after the assessment to give you a few ideas for places you could test your charism or serve in your parish, if the charism proves fruitful.
Do I have to serve only in the areas suggested by my charisms or parish?
Absolutely not! The invitations your parish offers for the charisms aren’t meant to be an exhaustive list, but a starting point for understanding a charism and how it can be expressed in the world. Many of the most exciting and innovative expressions of charisms come in blends and roles we might never expect — highlighting the endless creativity and wisdom of the Holy Spirit moving in the Church and the world. And your skills, experience, and learned talents may combine with your charisms to make you uniquely suited to serve in an area that’s not on the suggestion list — something you can only discover through your own insight and discernment with the Holy Spirit.
